Namibian Retail Sector Charter (NRSC)

The National Development Plan 4 (NDP4) clearly outlines its objectives for the retail sector in Namibia. NDP4 mandates the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and SME Development (MITSD) to drive growth in manufacturing and subsequently outlines a need for diversification of locally produced commodities; as well as to increase shelving and availability of locally produced goods.

Retail Price Monitoring

Namibia Trade Forum has established a Retail Price Monitoring Dash Board database in June 2013 with intention to monitor retail price of products manufactured in Namibia and receiving government support through interventions such as Infant Industry Protection (IIP) and Quantitative Restriction. Industries currently under IIP in Namibia are Pasta & Cement, while the Dairy and Poultry industries have received protection in the form of quantitative restriction. The horticulture and pork sector both have a market share promotion scheme.
